When hardship appears, Nuo becomes a prayer for peace.
Nuo culture begins with awe toward nature, ancestors and fate. In Xiangxi, it appears in blessings for children, harvests, homes, healing and protection, becoming a life ritual rather than a distant legend.
Masks represent different deities and temperaments.
Ritual tools transform space into a sacred stage.
Cinnabar connects blessing, protection and spiritual order.
Water-land paintings and Nuo images translate ideas of life, death, karma and blessing into vivid visual art. They are not only ritual objects but also a record of Xiangxi’s symbolic imagination.
